Students recently helped plant a NASA "Moon Tree" at Coeur d'Alene High School. The three-year-old Douglas fir seed was among about 1,000 seeds to orbit the moon during the Artemis I mission in late 2022.
This "Moon Tree" orbited the moon in November and December 2022 on the Artemis I mission, which launched a mega moon rocket into space and sent the Orion spacecraft on a 1.4-million-mile journey beyond the moon and back during an uncrewed flight test. Teacher Jennifer Haas filled out an application to have one of the seedlings and the application was granted. The seedling is planted behind the sign immediately behind the sign on the corner of 4th Street and Dalton Avenue.
